MNYERA HYDROPOWER PROJECT 485 MW
Mnyera hydropower project is located at Mnyera River which is the tributary of Rufiji River. The estimated capacity for the is 485MW based on the project studies undertaken in year 2015.
The Mnyera river is the combination of Ruaha River north and south branches which flow together at a point about 80km northeast of Njombe region (upstream) and just inside the Morogoro (downstream). The Ruaha north branch originates on the plateau in the Mufindi area and runs eastwards parallel to the TAZARA through a wide open valley to about 60km east of Makambako where the river turns south and crosses the railway. The south branch originates in the mountains area along the Makambako - Njombe road and flows eastward to the confluence with the north branch. The estimated size of the catchment at the confluence is about 4200km2 with a mean flow of 63m3/s.
